Another Obama executive order - welfare to work requirements

In 1996, President Clinton signed a bi-partisan law that would force welfare recipients to seek work in order to receive benefits - thus eliminating lifestyle/generational welfare collection. Obama has been against the work requirement since he was a senator. And now Obama has used yet another executive order to gut the welfare to work requirements and loosen the waiver requirements by the states. Under Obama's executive order if you get a message, thats work. If you attend a smoking cessation program, that's work. If you attend a parent-teacher conference, that's work.

But why would Obama do that? Hum....could it be for votes? Of maybe it is that if these people are no longer required to look for work, that the unemployment rate will drop? Who knows?

"The 1996 welfare reform bill, otherwise known as the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), ended welfare as an entitlement and empowered states with the authority to create unique and robust welfare to work programs. A central feature of devolution of federal authority back to the states was a vigorous work requirement for states, including a specific set of activities that qualified as “work.”

Over the years, as states used the reduction in the welfare caseload to mitigate compliance with the 1996 TANF work requirement, the focus on vital welfare to work initiatives diminished.

In 2005, the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office reported that several states listed as part of their definition of a “federal work activity” under TANF the following:

    1. Bed rest
    2. Personal care activities
    3. Massage
    4. Exercise
    5. Journaling
    6. Motivational reading
    7. Smoking cessation
    8. Weight loss promotion
    9. Participating in parent teacher meetings
    10. Helping a friend or relative with household tasks and errands

In the 2005 Deficit Reduction Act (DRA), Congress reigned in loosening these TANF work requirement definitions, which then-Senator Obama opposed. The authority to fund TANF ended at the end of fiscal year (FY) 2010. There has not been a reauthorization of the TANF programs and funding has continued on a stop gap basis.

Through Executive fiat and by bypassing Congress, the Obama Administration is undermining the important work reforms Congress enacted 7 years ago."

    Are there no poor houses?
I am in favor of anything that reduces the competition for jobs. Pay off the bums so they'll make room for those of us who do want to work.

That Max and PTA meeting? Almost like being a SINGLE MOM is A JOB?
Ann Romney ordering her maids and nannies around? GOP defends her as a hard working mother. A mother actually being a mother and raising her kids? She's a lazy bum. Obama looks like he's pushing towards motherhood as a job.(A book series I read has actual Professional Motherhood pay as long as they don't work any other job and focus on the kids/home)

Whats the problem? You are referencing a mere memorandum? Well, I'll have you know that I have no respect at all for more than half the "rules of law"......

Rule of law bailed the parasitic too big to fail banks out of the problems they were largely responsible for creating........and then went on to reward and protect the law breakers and predators who were at the helms of these corporations.

Give me as many reasons as to why I should respect even half the rules of Congress enacted laws.

Gosh, what a leader. Can you imagine having a parent like that? We'd all be tepidly tit-milking well into our 60's. We gotta get this dollhouse Stalinist outta the White House ASAP. Gods, who elected this idiot? America won't be making that mistake again...

Hey, Obama, look at me... ! I can go to the bathroom by myself, and everything.

Okay, I admit it is difficult to find a job, especially one that pays the bills, but making unemployment and welfare a lifestyle is not the answer. Just look at the EU. So if you are out looking for work and not turning down work if offered then you should be able to be helped by a safety net. Unfortunately, too many are not aggressively seeking work. There should be automatic job matches after a year on unemployment. Obama's order is unconstitutional and it needs to be challenged. Once again Obama's socialist and dictatorial beliefs are apparent!

Yep. I hope you've been aware of the France vs. Peugeot/Citroen layoff-controversy. The privately-owned company needed to layoff 8,000 due to bad-marketing, mostly. The new Socialist Government won't let them. That's what Obama's going-for. They don't give a shit about safety-nets, if they can executive-order companies to commit corporate-suicide.
