I need to make a correction on the date of the highlighted photo below. It's actually the same as the "Blue Eyes post" above, or 8-31-09.
It's just a different satellite view. I mistakenly dated it 8-22-09.

Erika's not looking too healthy at the moment. Hopefully she continues her decline. I don't like the track very much.

On the eve of hurricane Ike's memory, the earth's crust has moved at a certain point, to help make a big one.

Apollyon the destroyer? Is this going to be destructive?

I think it's important to point out that this is a small system, but it has held on across the entire Atlantis as if it might have a destiny, of sorts. Anyone who ignores a tropical warm core surface low in this area of the world, is forgetting the [current vote.]

Water vapor imagery of Fred suggests an improving environment overhead. Almost all of the deep convection to his west has subsided or moved north of his latitude. This is what has been contributing to a good deal of the shear.

However, judging from his size, I think we should reclassify Fred as a tornado instead, with yet another amazing curtain call.

    Reminded me of this---

I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or the sea, or any tree. Then I saw another angel...

The 2009 Atlantic hurricane season has been the quietest in more than a decade....

the Atlantic-Caribbean basin has seen just two hurricanes and a total of eight tropical storms.

El Nino, the Pacific warm-water phenomenon that can produce destructive weather in other parts of the world, played a big role in suppressing Atlantic cyclones this year, experts said.

If the full season, which runs from June through November, ended today, it would be the lowest number of storms since 1997. The last time an Atlantic season produced only two hurricanes was 1982.

So the angles are holding back the winds,

    so the insurance companies ,

    can make an obscene profit.

Yes, I know some that would believe that......

Yes... Well we know that the insurance companies certainly do know how to work all the angles.

The GFDL model is currently showing [Ida] with "hypercane" potential. As I've said here before, the combination/contrast of remnant warm waters over the northwest Caribbean, and the rapidly cooling upper atmosphere, can produce unusually strong storms late in the season. They rarely make it very far north, however, due to [high wind shear] caused by a lowering jet stream.

It's an interesting scenario to consider, but I wouldn't call it the dominant model. Click on satellite pic. for the current animation, and the [updated imagery may be found here.]

Compared to the record season we had in [2005,] it looks like a jacuzzi out there. You remember, that was the year we got into the [Greek Alphabet.] With an upper atmosphere that's unusually cold, and the Western Caribbean unusually warm; I wouldn't count out the possibility, that [Ida] could go [nuclear.]

Tropical Cyclone Heat Potential is a measure, not just of ocean surface temperatures, but how deeply the heat extends below the surface. The more you stir these red and orange areas, the more heat is released.

Click on image for the current Water Vapor loop of Ida.

Here's a current loop of Cuban radar, showing the eyewall structure. It's not a complete eyewall yet, which may be due to the southwesterly shear affecting hurricane Ida.

Click on the image for the latest updates. Be patient if the site is down, as they don't have a lot of traffic capacity in Cuba.

I'm also giving you a link to Cancun's radar, which unfortunately is a static image, but nicely detailed.
