Recently the site went down due to an explosive amount of traffic. Whenever natural disasters occur, or the site receives "mass media" focus, AO becomes a haven for anyone on the internet interested in reading about those (potential/ongoing) disasters. In just two days we used the bandwidth we would normally use over the period of a month... all because of 1 little link from yahoo. While bandwidth is technically "unlimited" with the current host - it still runs on a SHARED server, meaning downtime is always a potential with explosive traffic.

Traffic is good, but it can get quite expensive. We are receiving anywhere between 15,000 and 35,000 page loads per day More recently, on 1-9-08, the site gathered an incredible 150,000+ page loads in one 24 hour period. I am currently looking into an alternative form of hosting - albeit a bit SPENDY.... A private hosting package would prevent future downtime. it's known as VPS ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_private_server ). It's not what a person would call "cheap" for monthly fee's.

Currently, AO is costing more money for me than ever to keep up. If you frequent AO and enjoy reading and posting here, please consider making a contribution. 100% of the hosting costs, license fees, upgrades, and programs run here are currently coming out of my pocket.

Also I don't know how many of you order stuff through amazon or use that service, but Armageddon Online does have a store. The items cost the same, but since it's referred from the site - It's a form of support.

It's limited, but if you search through there and follow any link to amazon, and make a purchase, it track's back to the site. It's roughly a 2-4% cut that the store gets. Not much when ya buy a movie, but if you order from amazon (straight from their site) - keep in mind doing it through the AO store will generate the equivalent of a small donation - wheras if you go straight to amazon and order, it doesn't help.

So please, if you're gonna order something, it takes literally 2 extra seconds to find it through us.

Added $5 + $10 recurring monthly options. Same style for donation, through paypal, I just added links so that it should be all automated.

Basically you just set it up through paypal (which is now automated) and every month it will contribute a set $5 or $10 donation. I know some people have asked about recurring donations, so the new links on the right hand menu and homepage should take care of that. All that's needed (and accepted) still is paypal and those forms of payment.

Other forms are still not accepted.
