All I can say, is that I will go see the movie, I like Independance Day, and I likeThe Day after Tomorrow, this is a movie about 2012, a movie, not reality, I dont think anything will happen in 2012, but really, what can I say? We can be sure about anything, anyway, the possible event of 2012, and the movie are completly separated for me, I am going to see the movie, because I liked the two other ones, by Rolland Emmerich.
Chantale.

I read that some of the dialogue was unitentionally funny, but the effects were top notch. I guess it's pretty long too.
We'll see.

Well the effects were dynamic to say the least. But as most have read in the reviews, the dialog sucks. The best scenes where the tidal wave coming over the top of the himalayas and the California coast sliding into the Pacific, along with Woody harrelson playing the best roll in the film. And for you Yellowstone freaks you finally get to see that puppy blow.....
If it was worth 18 bucks...hmmmm

I enjoyed it. I expected much less and got much more. More cheese but the toppings were extraordinary. Fun, exciting and the 2.5 hrs went by quick. two thumbs up. (even if it wasn't based on anything other than Hollywood formulaic action). Movies can be entertainment you know!

I couldn't help but love the dark humor they managed to slip in the movie.
Like how all hell broke lose after Arnold Schwarzenegger claimed that nothing bad was going to happen anymore. The giantic random donut.
That cool song the scientists father and his partner sing right after the first big event about how the world is not going to end.
And the political satire of the Italian prime minister.

My senses were so bombarded with stimulus that it was hard to digest much, in terms of plot or story line. I thought the acting was OK, and of course the special effects were wonderful.
My only problem was the failure to merge religious with scientific theory, in terms of how the end comes. According to the Bible, it comes "like a flood," but only in terms of speed and surprise. Almost everything else in Scripture points to drought and fire.

I think the only religious message in the movie is "God isn't gonna safe you, run."
Which is still better than the science depicted in the movie.

I do film reviews for my local outlet, after seeing this later today and typed up, I'll post a copy.
They're about 3 paragraphs long.

I saw the movie on tuesday and the 2.5 hours went bywith no problems I was really into the movie but I was still a little disappointed at how they made it seem like you would have enough time to drive a RV of a moutain top and beat the eruption of yellowstone and get to the plane in time....We all know that would have not happened... but ehh its the movies cant expect them to be ultra accurate

Hopefully I'm not the only one that laughed when that Russian dude took the plunge.
Awesome flick though!

Meh, looking back at it after the hype ended.
While the movie had awesome graphical violence. Qua story it was not better than the average Asylum disaster flick. And while the effects makes the movie a great movie to watch.
Graphics do not make a good movie on its own.
So I personally believe Tokyo Magnitude 8, which aired at roughly the same time. Was a much better disaster movie. And As long Hollywood continue neglecting their storyline and character development. I doubt that movie is going to be surpassed soon.

I enjoyed it thoroughly when I saw it in the theatre. It was just a tad too long, and I know this because I had to get up and use the bathroom and couldn't wait until the end of the movie to do so, lol.
To me the part where I just could not swallow it was when they escaped Yellowstone, and it sounds weird, but I found even the end scenes when the ship almost hits Mt. Everest more believable than the Yellowstone scene where he just makes it back on the plane.
I want to buy this one and see it again at home.

I missed it in the theatres, so bought it on Blu-Ray. The effects are awsome, but the story is pretty fantastical. The drive from the ex-wife's house to the airport is pretty far fetched as well... don't forget the west coast sinking like a ship going down by the bow into the pacific. All I know is that if I had to be any of those characters in that same situation, I think I would pick Woody Harrelsons guy.

It was definatley a B movie, and the yellowstone escape was far fetched (there's no way he could have gotten out of that hole). But it was still alot of fun.

the only Roland Emmerich movie I don't already own on DVD is 10 000 BC (because that one is SO bad that even I cannot have it around).
I LOVE ROLAND EMMERICH otherwise because he is truly Germany's unholy answer to Irwin Allen and Michael Bay.
ANYONE who takes his work seriously in any way should be remanded into custody - it's like thinking that the Marx Brothers 'A Night At The Opera' is a factual record of early 20th century Classical Music Culture.
the guy makes the same kind of Blockbuster Disaster Movies that were all the rage in the 1970's (EARTHQUAKE - With SENSURROUND Where Available) and his movies bear as much resemblance to reality as any of those previous cataclysmic excesses (anyone remember the Original Poseidon Adventure?).
I also think that most Americans who Hate the movies of Emmerich have no sense of humour - after all his views of America and Americans is the stereotypical, warped view of Eagle and Apple Pie Patriotism that the Majority of the world shares (thanks to the deluge of Eagle and Apple Pie Patriotic Media we've been flooded under for the last 70 years).
2012 was abso-fuckin-lutely absurd and over the top. EVERY SINGLE ACTION SEQUENCE was so stunningly improbable that I was curled up on the couch, shaking with laughter and the movie on pause so I didn't miss the next ten minutes whilst I regained control of myself. to even CONSIDER that One Single Minute of the movie was anywhere in the same solar system as Reality is like admitting you truly believe that Santa and his Reindeer will save humanity from the Asteroid Strike.
and ANYONE who goes to such movies and walks away pissed off because it was so unbelievable and over the top is the kind of moron who gets pissed off because the picture of the food on the box doesn't match the way the food looks in the package ... in short, lacking a grasp of basic reality and common sense ...
which is, of course, why we often find folks like this on AO ... roflmao ... including me ...
