Kosovo declares independence from Serbia
This should add some tension in the region.

It was read out in Albanian, Serbian and English by prime minister Hashim Thaci before the approval of state symbols including Kosovar's new national flag and anthem.
Thaci said that Kosovo was an "independent and democratic" state, adding: "From this day onwards, Kosovo is proud, independent and free."
CNN's Alessio Vinci, reporting from the Kosovar capital Pristina, said that thousands of Kosovo's Albanian population had braved the freezing wind and cold to sing, dance, wave flags in the streets and light firecrackers ahead of the much anticipated vote. Some revellers were even said to be firing gunshot into the air. "It's been like this for several hours now," he said.
"It's a day they have been waiting for for such a long time that many of them are trying to figure out just how they got to this day."

Yes - it is creating more tension, really nasty tension.
Russia has condemned it and is calling for an emergency UN Security Council meeting to annul the declaration. The reports say that the UN will likely approve Kosovo's independence.
This is straining already damaged relations between Russia and US. Russia is warning that recognizing Kosovo's independence will escalate ethnic violence. NATO has said it will protect Kosovo.
World Reaction: Russia condemns declaration

However, the acceptance of Kosovo's independence is in detriment of Spain - a country from NATO! - and that will definitively will cause a blow-back. Now, ETA and IRA will find a political solution to recognize their independence from their countries... well, IRA more than ETA.

Well someone is expecting hell we are sending in troops from the uk,well on standby anyway trouble is Russia isnt exactly friendly with the uk.
So im expecting some sort of threat from puttin, the uk may be seen as enemies of Russia.
British troops are on standby to deploy at short notice to Kosovo after it declared itself an independent nation.
Another day another war.

Check this out, some have said that the agitator is Germany, they are encourageing Kosovo.
Now Germany Wants to basicly control NATO.
I know when Pres. B. Clinton sent troops to Croatia, my son came back and said, we were on the wrong side.

The United States and key European countries recognized Kosovo on Monday, a day after the province's ethnic Albanian leaders declared independence from Serbia.
Russia wont be happy about this!
Are we heading for a world conflict?

I think it would be better if they waited too see how this develops.
For all we know they turn out just as bad as the Serbia.
At the moment its more important that the area stays calm than that some minority gets a little place of their own.

It won't be quite as dramatic as you might think, but it certainly doesn't help relations with Moscow. Add this action by the US as another reason why Moscow will not help with an UN resolutions on Iran.

Its coming more and more clear now that it turns out that the west was secretly helping Kosovo preparing for this. Welcoming the state is one thing. But actually having an active role in the formation must really be a thorn in russia's eye.
Who knows which separatist groups are getting similar aid as we speak.
ETA, the Flemish or perhaps even the Kurds and chechnya.

Kosovo and then other groups wanting their independence AND helped by NATO, is seems a legal way of "Divide and Conquer"
And I'm curious, with what resources does Kosovo counts to be have a sustainable economy? For if they don't have them, they might be simple puppets from NATO.

The European Union told Serbia on Friday to protect embassies after attacks over Western support for Kosovo's secession, and suggested such violence could harm its prospects of closer ties with the bloc.
Do we see another beginning of what happened there many years ago or does it become another Iraq?.
What i mean by that we go in as we have to then upset the serbs.
Expect more days of violence to come.

Its slowly starting to spread into other regions now.
Aside from the call for the separation of northern Kosovo. The Serbs in Srpska now also want independence.
Serbs also seek independence. (The Times).
It looks like the conflict is starting to act more on a cultural level than on a political one now.

Yet another afghan pakistan and Iraq conflict among different religions only this time as you say a cultural clash instead.
The un soldiers cant really do anything other than keeping peace,so in the end troops would have to be sent in instead.
I dont know how this can happen if it turns nasty, as we are thinly stretched already with the middle east conflict.
I read to day that large numbers of uk troops are leaving the armed forces and so are the us forces.
Many eu countries may not want to get invoved as we have already seen, one example of this is that the us want some help from germany.
There are too many wars going on these days we cant police them all as we dont or wont have any manpower left.
Seriously though how serious of a problem is this going to be?will russia send in troops soon?

The United States accused Serbia on Friday of failing to protect embassies from attack over Western support for Kosovo's independence, and the EU said such violence could damage Belgrade's prospects of closer ties.

All of the nations of the Balkans want to be seperate again.
Why not, it is after all a religous war.
The area once part of the Royal Hungery(kingdom of croatia)
Once part of the Holy Roman Empire, Catholics against Protestants reformers, both against Muslim.
As Ottomans had taken over area, the Hasburg Dynasty part of Holy Roman Empire, forced them back after many years of war but, left some Muslim converts.
This was an original Celtic people, that converted to Christains, that were overtaken by Muslims.
Once the Hungarians were back in power, they wanted the Ottomans out.
They were faced with the so called Turkish question. ( muslims ) The killing continued.
The Protestant reformation spread and in the 17th Century almost none of the Noble families were now Catholic.
Kosovo was Muslim, Serbia was Christain.
In 1945 the area was made Yugoslavia. They have fought and rebelled against each other ever since.
This is a war of religions......Catholic vs Protestant vs Muslim.
As long as there has been one God there has been killing in his name: Dan Brown
And it will continue: Old Dragon

Do not be surprized in the coming future to see Germany take a leading roll.
There is a movement, just a beginning to re-establish the Holy Roman Empire.
The Pope, Benedict XVI, is German. It is said that he will be the last POPE.
He is a funamentalist. He is trying to bring the Orthodox Churches back to Rome.
Germany now wants to lead NATO, as they lead the Holy Roman Empire.

Don't forget what the Ottoman Turks did to the Albanians in 1900.
The Serbs in Kosovo fear the same and now Serbia can not protect them without another war.
