Insults Rant
Attack the logic, not the person. It seems the only way to get this through your head is to have me start handing out temp bans and points, and be the nazi you had in mind.
All members run this place, not the mods. They are basically doing a few simple tasks (which is helpful) - like keeping spam off, making sure porn isn't around, and trying to steer conversations back on topic. That's BASICALLY the guidelines. You wanna see a REAL moderated forum, go call someone "a douchebag" or "retard" on a different forum - start with the Christian ones. Then progress to the political ones.
If you want that kind of behavior, go hit up 4chan and you'll get all the stupid shit the internet has to offer. Swear they crammed it all into one place under the guise of "anonymous".
Also, stop complaining. If you desperately don't like AO (and it's not a suggestion like NEW SECTION, new ARTICLE, or "hey matt, we could help do this) then keep yer trap shut. There's ~30 billion pages to visit. No one has a gun to your head to stay here. Don't be an emo person and say "omgomgomg im gonna leave if you don't do this". Fine and dandy.... no problems there.
Christ on a cracker.... YOU PEOPLE MAKE THE FORUMS. Sorta funny, cause when you bitch - you are inherently bitching about yourselves. The concept is simple.... I always maintain people should post what they want, but the level of personal attacks and bitching (about a FREE SERVICE I may add) has to stop.
You scare off new people, you contribute NOTHING to the site, and it's getting annoying. Do a dance, sing a song... better yet - WRITE SOMETHING USEFUL. POST SOMETHING USEFUL.

It's like an obsessive compulsive disorder for some...
They feel vindicated attacking others...it's makes up for the failures in their own life as well as making them feel all arrogant and stuff...
We do have and ignore button...I have had to place a few of the children here on that list.
Trolls will be trolls no matter who they think they are or what they think they know...
Some here can disagree with someone and still be classy about it while others pretend they are so sophisticatedly educated yet they post nothing but insulates...
It does scare off new people who don't like to play kid games...
Here is a quote from a major toll at another site who has trolled me at a few places...I exposed it's hypocrisy and once it bitched to the admin so profusely that she deleted all my threads, posts and banned me....it bit itself in the ass as others then turned on it..

I think you have a great site here MM...I may not have posted as much as the 2000+ posters in my couple of years here... but I do try to refrain from the innuendos, slander and harassment trolling games...
Unless starting a troll bating thread is trolling it self...heehee

If you go through life just associating only with people of like mind then you learn nothing and become closed to the real world...yet you still think you know it all...
Being unable to communicate with people who have different views and ideas without resorting to simple name calling is just a reflection of your inner self...
When is the last time you called someone a MF'er in a real debate... I only here that coming from liberals and drunks...
Not all democrats are liberal and not all liberals are democrats...

I disagree with Cartesiantheater but at least he/she is level headed most of the time...
As you can see the ones on my ignore list never comment on the content of the thread or my replies... they just insult
yet I have never complained...I knew they had / have mental issues and I feel pity for them...I know they suffer..alone

The correct method is to add the person to your ignore list - and let me deal with it.
People say we got "nazi" style control for the forums - and now I gotta play that role for a while.
I guess you guys should have just played nice (and I mean the entire forum - not just you two in here) and not got me mad, but it is what it is. I am so sick of people responding with insults and personal attacks.
It's been sliding by forever and I LOVE the hell out of letting people post what they want.... but now it's just junior high insults. So keep on bitching, and it'll get worse. Stay on topic, attack the persons idea or standpoint... philosophy.... concept.... thought.... whatever you want to call it, but for the love of Johnny Cash - do not resort to this name calling bullshit.
I try to just let people post something, and give their thoughts... then have others share theirs....
It's not exactly complicated. Minimal interference, minimal modding, minimal restraint - but good god, you people are taking it too far. Scaring people away, treating new posters like morons for asking a question, getting on someones case in a POLITICAL disagreement... none of that works. If you want to go somewhere, and post what you want without someone countering your logic, go start a blog and disable comments.
Think of AO as we're all in a banquet hall hanging out. There's bouncers for people that get out of line, and there are waiters that try to keep everything moving along from topic to topic.
The insults stop here and now, and infractions will be dished out for personal attacks and extreme comments. End of story.
