Hospital Error Gives 6 Year Old Girl HIV
http://timesnow.tv/NewsDtls.aspx?NewsId=8086
Quote:
In a fateful mistake, a hospital in Haryana -- Yamuna Nagar Civil Hospital -- has administered HIV contaminated blood to a six year old girl named Ishika.
Ishika has Thallasemia, which requires her to get a blood transfusion very often. It was through one of these transfusions at the hospital in Haryana that Ishika contracted HIV.
The troubled parents of 6-yr-old Ishika are distraught. The father of the girl -- Rajesh -- said that it doesn't matter as to who is responsible. I don’t know what to do since I found out that HIV is not curable."
Ishika earlier used to get the transfusions through the Red Cross in Karnal, Punjab but subsequently moved to Yamuna Nagar Civil Hospital, which is being held responsible for the fateful transfusion.
However, hospital authorities have shrugged to take any responsibility for the horrific incident. Dr Sharma, Secretery, Yamuna Nagar said that it's not our job to examine the blood for HIV. We just have camps to collect the blood and pass it on to.
Meanwhile, the blood bank authorities deny the allegations and pass the buck to the Red Cross.
Dr Munish Rathi -- in charge of blood bank, Yamuna Nagar -- said that before getting transfusions from us, the girl used to get transfusions in Punjab.

Strange, thats true. However they probably would have done the episode anyway regardless lol!
Anyway, this must be terrible for the family, I mean6 years old? You'd think there would ave been better screening for this right?

Hey, people are human... The odds are that SOMEONE was going to make that mistake. I feel bad for the girl, but in a world run by people things like this will happen.
Maybe in a world run by machines, rather than lazy, unreliable humans, this would happen less? (shout out to DBA's utopia)

I know tell me about it. You'd think they would have done stricter screening with the blood before giving it to people since HIV is a big drama throughout the world lately, due to the fact it's widespread and there's no cure for it.
But I get the feeling that services are getting careless and lazy lately. I know for a fact that not all of them are, but maybe it's a growing scenario that needs to be stopped.
Of course, unfortunate accidents can happen.

I have no idea. but they should be testing blood before they give it to people, especially children. Maybe this can be a lesson learned for others in the future.

Yup. If something were to happen to me where I require blood replacement in the future, I'd definitely make them test the blood first before giving it to me. I went through an std scare in the past and I was lucky it came up negative. I'm determined not to let that happen again...with anything.
But things do happen unfortunately.
