Oh and Rap, I think I have a cool pic for you. I can PM it to you if you want, plus I can buy some of these. I have connections!!

My favorite picture, from those that you have posted links for is [this one.] That is an amazing photograph.
I'm glad they found it. That's an amazing sum, insurance wise, but they are so highly prized, that tiny little slices sell for [hundreds of dollars.]

Just got our power back on this afternoon. Been w/o electricity since May 5th. Had straight line winds of 100 mph the night before, and went to neighbor's tornado shelter 3 times til we finally got to go to our place. Ripped up pretty bad. Such is life....
Yeah, no complaints after the non-stop coverage here on Greensburg. Went there last summer to see the world's deepest hand-dug well and a stone-iron meteorite. Stayed at their Best Western there - it aint no more, believe me.

Hello Shawnee, I was worried about you and kept asking where you were. PM me if there is anything I can do. The spouse is trying to get on a bus detail for Greensburg for Saturday, but let us know if you need us else where. Have chain saws and FORD F-150's can haul!
Glad to hear you are ok....

We have family and 3 small surrounding 'towns' - small - that have volunteered and done wonders here. Thanks for offers and thoughts, though - muchly appreciated!
An orchard is a hell of a place to have a tornado...

Well, that the way of Mother Nature telling us not to suburban-sprawl, hinting them to prop up tents.

I'm north and east of Greensburg - up in north central on Hwy 4. My area is around Claflin. They lost power there on May 4th and weren't back on til the 9th. Not a lot of home damage there. Mainly they have an elevator and large silos just on the hwy. going thru south part of town. Those silos rolled all over the place and landed between the lumberyard and the only grocery store in town, wouldn't you know.
The power lines east of town were put back up by Saturday. But that Saturday night they were ripped out again - plus a mile to the east. That's when we got hit - the last time we went to the shelter was the worst. That's when it hit. I know it passed right directly over us. Our ears popped on the left side and it was screaming out there. Then silence - I thought it was over and said "well heck that didn't take long!" - then the other side hit and popped our right ears. My husband had to take his bridge out of his mouth. Said his jaw hurt. We all had headaches the next day - all 4 of us - and big ones. They sure don't pass as fast as you think they would. This one took quite a while. I'm sure sold on those Canton tornado shelters!!
The most surprising thing was not the 'training' the paths took so much as how long those things kept generating - they just did NOT wind down. The first night when Green'burg was hit that thing was on the ground nearly continuosly. The path of destruction both nights was long and varied. We had over 10" of rain in two nights.
There were a large pile of old bowling balls to the north by our silo - now on it's side by the way. Those bowling balls were deposited in my vegetable garden - to the south. Can't tell me that we were hit that second night with straight winds! Had a barn to the south of that garden; it's still standing. But deposited in the large rubber trash can we keep the cat food in was....a bowling ball! The lid of the trash can was on so tight I couldn't get it off. When husband took it off and saw that bowling ball in there you should have seen his face.

Shawnee, we are glad that you are safe! That is quite something that you all had major headaches afterwards. Have they subsided yet? In your experience where you live, have you noticed any changes in the Tornadic activity in your area? If so, do you remember when the changes first occured? I am interested in the electrical activity inside as well as the new information on the "metals" in the atmosphere perhaps also caught up in those particular tornados.

We had major headaches til Monday. I even took extra strength sinus headache meds and it didn't touch it. Not sure what you mean by changes in tornadic activity. Before or after the storm, or increased storminess in general around this area period?

I watched the movie [Superman Returns] over the weekend for the first time, and I thought that it was thought provoking, as it relates to this tornado.
In the book of Job, the [whirlwind] carries God's voice.

I hope things are slowly getting back to normal, hopefully better prepared for the next time.Shame the same cannot be said for New Orleans as they have put up a new report as Hurricane season comes again. In a New Orleans still recovering from Hurricane Katrina in 2005, the city safety plan for the next storm can be summed up best in two words: Get out.As the 2007 Atlantic hurricane season begins, New Orleans officials say the city is better prepared than it was before Katrina, but cannot assure people's safety.Lets hope they can prevent this.

New Orleans will be spared, but keep your eyes to the sky.
Turn around, look at what you see...
In her face, the mirror of your dreams...
Make believe I'm everywhere
Hidden in the lines
Written on the pages
Is the answer to a Neverending Story
Reach the stars, fly a fantasy...
Dream a dream, and what you see will be...
Rhymes that keep their secrets
Will unfold behind the clouds
There upon the rainbow
Is the answer to a Neverending Story
Show no fear, or she may fade away...
In your hands, the birth of a new day...
Rhymes that keep their secrets
Will unfold behind the clouds
There upon the rainbow
Is the answer to a Neverending Story

Nine confirmed dead. This tornado hit about 9:45 pm my time and was about 1 mile wide. One of the worst kind at night can't see where it is coming from or where it is going.
I was at the Pet Clinic loading up supplies this morning to be shipped out there. I was up until 4am my time watching this, and of course making nonsense posts here.
This is a small town, but 95% of the homes and businesses are gone.
Went out and got water and gatoraide to be shipped there too. I also stocked up my supplies here for my family.
They have actually done a good job. Senator Pat Roberts said "this is not a Katrina situation" That should go over well with some other govt officals.
Anyway the picture I posted there were buildings all around the tower that says BIG WELL. This is the towns claim to fame a 400 ft, hand dug well. In the upper left hand corner there is some metal frame looking things, there was an old church that was build in the 1800's with 3 floors, full of antiques. It WAS my favorite stop in route to visit the family in that area.

Just a reminder that this happened one year ago. And GW will be giving the Graduation announcment at the high school this weekend. Again, I am about two hours away, but will get to see Airforce One fly over my head again.
Here is a link to one network new channel that is relating. After the storms in VA, I suppose they can relate to us here in the middle of tonado alley and what we experience every spring, summer.
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/...n4054430.shtml
Watch all the videos, if you can. (little boring at times, but interesting to some) So the true center of the the USA is nothing but a bunch of hicks hee hee, fooled ya'll. I found them interesting and I live near there! And it has been colder than normal here for this time of the year. I guess someone needs to tell me why???
But, as you can tell by the videos, this truely isn't a Katrina situation. What makes this different? A hurricane you have a few days to plan for, and tornado a few minutes.
You all tell me???
