End of the Euro Army.

I saw an interesting documentary on the Balkan war and the dealings of the US intelligence during the war. It seems the US were reluctant to send ground troops in even though Nato and the UN asked for there help. They instead sent countless intelligence agents instead to oversee the war and to dictate numerous outcomes. They even contravened Nato and UN orders, operating covert arms supply OPS to Bosnian forces allowing the Muslims to attack Serbs causing massive Serbian reprisals and huge muslim massacres. They also ignored airspace restrictions during these ops.
During this time Britain and France had signed a treaty basically opening the way for a mobile strategic army to be formed which all saw as a seed for a Euro Mobile Response Army consisting of Euro nation soldiers. This would not be to the benefit of American Future Strategic Policies.
With the alliance of Britain back to the US during the Iraq WMD crisis and the French and German non support, the Euro Army is now back to square one and is conveniently not looking good for quite a while.
Any thoughts guys?

I'm not convinced there will be ever be a true "Euro Army". I doubt some French general wants to take orders from a German (or vice versa). It's conceivable there might be a temporary force to respond to some kind of threat, but I just can't see a standing Euro Army being kept around.

I also won't be convinced that the Euro currency is viable until it weathers some type of crisis sucessfully. There is too much incentive for member countries to pursue expansionary fiscal policy during a crisis and bemoan the lack of monetary control the Euro currency entails..

What Nonsense!!! At the moment, the Euro is doing far better than the dollar. The "euro army" already proved its value a number of times!! If you want to shoot, load the friggin gun with ammo first.

The performance of the Euro on the world currency markets is more due to weakness of the dollar than due to strength of the Euro. Like most currencies (including the dollar), the Euro is backed by nothing and therefore fundamentally weak. It is backed only by government decree and the printing press. I stand by my statement that the member countries have yet to face a collective crisis that tests the member states willingness to abide by the currency agreement.

What actions has the Euro Army participated in? Certainly not defense of borders. Perhaps they have involved themselves in peacekeeping efforts, but that is not a proper way to validate the strength of a multilateral armed force.

My Bit

The Old World is definitely heading towards a new beginning financially and militarilly. True Zed the Euro has not been tested fully but with the introduction of new countries and consumers too the EU in May and most certainly more Eastern Countries in the future the 400 million strong EU will be a strong economic group in the future. Tested.... Terriorist attacks in Spain could have devalued the Euro but that did not happen in the same way 9/11 devalued the US Dollar. I agree we should see what happens but from what I have seen in Europe so far it only gives me positive signs of future prospèrity.
Millitarily I feel the Euro Army is more Intelligenced based rather than the US numbers strategy. As we have seen the US intelligence is somewhat lacking in Autonomy and is easily persuaded by powers to be. That cannot happen in the EU as there is more counter intelligence being swapped that leads to a more correct assessment of situations being formed.

Oisin,
More like Carthage and Rome. The old empire and the new. I don't think you will make the same mistakes as Hannibal though.
