Year 2012 .
It's from the Mayan calendar of their astronomers predicting the worlds end on that date ( December , if I remember correctly ) . HOWEVER , there is extensive info I have read on another site by historians of " calendars " , showing that to equate their calendar to ours , with it's numerous changes for religious purposes ( and farming, etc . ) , it could very well be this year or next . Sorry , read to much ; can't always remember where I read it . But it was a recent posting ( last few weeks ).

It is the end of the Mayan calendar. I wouldn't sweat it though.

Not quite accurate responses. It's not actually the end of the calendar because is it s cyclical calendar, so it is more like an odometre rolling over. Also, it is only one of 13 calendars that was used by the Mayans, and measures ages of the sun. This will be the begining the the 7th, the Age of Aquarius.
We know it to be 2012 because researchers were able to synchronize it with our calendar by an eclipse in the 70s or 80s. It's actually based upon the earht's wobble and measures the 26,000 year cycle. On December 21, 2012, the celestial tapestry will be centred on the very centre of the road in the Milky Way, and from there it will begin again for another 26,000 years before the picture is exactly the same again.

As everyone else said, its the end of the ancient mayan calendar. Think of it as being like our year coming to the end... what happens then? Well we start a new one dont we...

Thats what i think, just a new age, life goes on. What ive read people seem to think 'The world will end' like by something to do with space. Its just a date, how did time begin anyway. Notice how people like Nostradamus predicted things AFTER his lifetime. I could just say, a nuke will be detonated in Washington in 2176 (random) and there will be a nuclear war (if they havent already been detonated and there been a huge nuclear war). lol, predictions. Anyone watch the programme last night on sky one, was called something like "50 worst preditions". I think that the millenium bug was number 1, all that stuff and then everyone getting worried that it would could conflict etc. And people got really scared of the countdown to the Y2K

Yeah, I used to go to those y2k chat rooms and bet people money that nothing would happen, they never paid up either.
I was having surgery when the new year hit I was so confident it was bs.

Basically this is the supossed "apocalyps." Its written a long time ago and is very "mystical". Supposidely everything man has created will turn against them and the "animals will tell us the error of our ways" ...Boring

why do we have to belive in all those silly predictions about the end of the world. I mean none has proven true. Cant we just post replies about how fragile our world is? not about "ghost" and "demons" appering from nowhere and killing us all.

The Mayan Calendar is actually not strictly accurate - the Olmecs (pre Mayan) came up with the numerological system that the Mayans used for their dating system. The neat thing about their numerological system was that it counted up Really High for what was considered a 'primitive' culture. Apparantly they had representative symbols for numbers as high as 100 trillion back when most existing cultures were still trying to figure out the concept of 'zero.'
The End of their Calendar (the 2012 thing) has fascinated cultural anthropologists and armageddonists since it was first figured out. The Tracking of Earth's Precession (the 26 000 year cycle) was one thought, except that the Precessional Shift to the Age Of Aquarius began back in the 1920's and won't 'finish' until 2100 sometime, so it could be said that we are already living in the Age of Aquarius (and have been for two generations). The precise tracking of Earth's Precessional Roll is iffy at best, there is no precision instrument yet available that can give us that degree of accuracy.
The Sphinx (in Egypt) is related to the whole Precession thing (see: Fingerprints of the Gods by Graham Hancock - he's got some neat ideas and can spin a good story).
But the End of the Calendar isn't about resets or apocalypses - the best translation they could get from the calendar fragment which started this whole thing was that things would change entirely. Not the End of Everything but the Change of Everything.
Change is not as bad as the End, except if you're one of those people who would rather see things End than Change.

then why did someone ask about it?
if you have nothing to add, nrj, try to at least be funny about it instead of simply wasting space.

Well, I don't think the Mayans would predict the anti-christ of a religion that they predate, or nuclear war that they predate. So if something is going to happen, it will probably be a natural disastor. I still voted nothing, because 'if they were so great, why are they dead?'

as one who has studied extensively prophecies both old and recent I will say time is mallaeble therefore psychics seeing past 2012 is very feasable.
That said, I firmly believe that the 4th age (as comparative to several religions including the bible) will begin and the the 3rd age will end. (hindu ages 5th, 4th respectivly, several other age numbers are given in other times and places.)
as for the mayan calendar look into our solar positoning within the galaxey in 2012 still need some scientific research but there is some sort of star change in regards to polar star location

So, just because they didnt know nuclear weapons was a possibility, it has to be disregarded? fuck no! maybe they predicted a terrible war, were we all killed each other? in that case, nuclear weapons would most likely be involved.
