Could this country (USA) head towards a civil war?
I was thinking about this in my head earlier and wanted to get some comments..
After a lot of reading on this site I see how some people feel about the government now......lies, deceit, fear and war mongering, ignoring the constitution, civil liberties going down the tube....and I'm actually wondering how long it will take for the US people to put thier foot down and say STOP and the gov't needs an overhaul....be it 2, 5, 10, 20 years or more down the road.....my impression is that if their was a leader.....the current gov't would do something to stop him/her....assasination maybe? Or maybe the US people are just to chicken to say STOP? Of course their would be sides......Pro Current gov't USA and obviously Anti Gov't USA.....with the current military this would be a problem (fear), but there would also be disention in the ranks as well....
Anyways...just thought I'd put this out for discussion..

I think such a scenario will require economic despair before there is any chance of it happening. If there are food shortages (or depression-style economic conditions), anything is possible.
Considering the general public complacency about the political situation, the relative wealth of society, and the overwhelming dominance of the state in the USA, I think there will have to be a massive erosion of living conditions before anything like that is possible.

I remember reading on www.johntitor.com about a Civil War. I believe that the way things are looking, a Civil War is possible. I mean, there is a lot of tension between Pro-Bush and Anti-Bush people, and this kind of tension does spread into different topics like the Patriot Act and Homeland Security. Pretty soon, all this arguing can turn into a fist fight.

Peak Oil = civil war.
The anti bush will say it is Dubya's fault, the pro bush the (democrat)'s fault. I'm sure some rednecks will blame blacks/asians/native americans and general immigrants for it too.

Good question. Lets just hope we wont have to answer it. Fighting in a civil war isn't one of the top 10 things I want to do within the next 5 years.

My family is going on a vacation to the Phillippines from June 10 to July 6 ... I hope this "civil war" will start around that time period, we wont return, and there is no civil war for me and my family.
If it starts later, I probably will still be on my computer/xbox all day... unless they cut mah internet and electricity...
THEN I'm screwed.
I really dont know what side to be on, but hey, im too young to "fight".

This scenario is much more of a probability in the UK at the minute. The racial tension in many many parts of England is reaching uncontrollable heights. The BNP (British National Party) are very close to becoming a serious political party and they believe that Britain is for the BRitish only, and White British at that. Seriously look it up, im sure you could find summat on the recent riots in Oldham where i come from between asians and white people. Its only gonna get worse in my opinion. The amount of asian people in Britain could very well see this become a civil war. Let it be known I have nothing against any other race, im just stating a very real possibility.

I think it is very possible for a civil war here in America. If we have one more botched election or another terrorist attack, that might set it off. The guy from the future said that "our" civil war will begin this year 2004. The election is the only thing right now that could justify that claim. We'll just have to wait and see. Personally, i think it might happen within the next 5-10 years if things don't improve here in the US.

doom doom ... DOOOOOOM!
You ppl crack me up--it would take more than an alleged botched election or terrorist attack to cause a civil war in AMERICA.
Perhaps you believe that the peaceful arrival of extraterrestrial beings would set it off as well.
You PPL!
"Oh the sky is falling", "oh I broke a nail", "the gods must hate me because I agree with -MD- that the entire middle east should be turned into a giant parking lot", "Oh I told that Mormon to go fuq himself--god must hate AMERICA now and wants to botch its election" ....geezus

i think our country is ****ed, because we only have the choice of 1 of 2 idiotic , incapable presidents. I only see more shit sliding down the tubes. Our country will eventually get fed up and start rioting like vietnam. Especially if theres a draft for North Korea...

We are far from a civil war. The average person's lifestyle in America is the second "best" world wide - second to Canada. We are far from opressed here; "big brother" isn't doing a good job.
Although, Bush and Kerry are both dumb asses. I hate both of them; I will end up voting for the one I hate less.

Actually, a few months ago, I saw a little article in our local TV staiton about the best living conditions in the world, if my memory does not have the errors that my RAM has, this is how it follows:
1) Switzerland
2) Norway
3) Finland
4) Singapore (wtf? )
5) Sweden
6) Austria
7) Canada
8) Japan
9) England
10) Netherlands
11) USA
12) United Arab Emerates (or something like that, also wtf)
13) S. Korea
14) Germany
15) Burnei (No taxes! )
The list many factors that are important to people like: Income, Government Services, Civil Unrest, Education, climate, e.t.c.
Also remember, this only comes from my memory of the program.

In my Sociology class, the professor said it was Canada and US as 1 and 2. However, he was probably not taking into account all the variables you mentioned.

Survey Says!!!!!
This site: http://www.nationalvanguard.org/story.php?id=382 Suggested the following:
The United Nations has issued a report, "Best and Worst Places to Live 2003," and the results correlate with IQ (figures added) and race in an obvious way. Of the 20 best countries to live in, all but highly-civilized Japan are majority-White and all have IQs in the normal range. The eight worst countries to live in are all sub-Saharan African -- with concomitant low IQs.
I am not sure about this statement on IQ. Sounds biased to me.
20 best countries to live in:
1. Norway (IQ 98)
3. Sweden (IQ 101)
4. Australia (IQ 98)
6. Belgium (IQ 100)
7. United States (IQ 98)
8. Canada (IQ 97)
9. Japan (IQ 105)
10. Switzerland (IQ 101)
11. Denmark (IQ 98)
12. Ireland (IQ 93)
13. Britain (IQ 100)
14. Finland (IQ 97)
16. Austria (IQ 102)
17. France (IQ 98)
18. Germany (IQ 102)
19. Spain (IQ 97)
20. New Zealand (IQ 100)
8 worst countries to live in:
157. Guinea (IQ 66)
160. Tanzania (IQ 72)
163. Zambia (IQ 77)
166. Guinea-Bissau (IQ 59)
167. Democratic Republic of Congo (IQ 65)
169. Ethiopia (IQ 63)
174. Niger (IQ 67)
175. Sierra Leone (IQ 64)
I suppose there are many similar reports out there with varying results.
And... Aren't we getting a little off topic?

Japan has the highest IQ's of them all... what a surprise. Heh....
I though IQ's were determined when you were born...? Does that mean people who live in Sub-Saharan Africa are born not-too-sharp or is it because of lack of educucation and nutrition?
Yep, we are off-topic but who cares.

Your list is only based on IQ? What were the age groups, etc? Site leaves out a lot of info perhaps linking to the actual UN report would of been better. Lotr's list is more on the ball. I believe Iceland was in the top ten as well.

Sorry but it is not my list...
Just something I found on the internet in a Google search. I do not know any more about it than the posted article states. I do not think it was based on IQ as it is not listed in IQ order. I think the article said it was juat a correlation added to the list. I have no Idea where the original UN Report is. It was just a fun list to add to LOTR and Stewey's thoughts. Keep in mind LOTR's list was based on memory of a TV report (AND he seems to have a fantastic memory) and Stewey's was a comment from a teacher at school. None of this is "Carved In Stone" information just conjecture.

It is totally asainine to even propose thAt there would be a civil war in America in the 21st Century!!!
there will never be the same type of circumstances that produced The rebellion in the 1860s. That was a completely dfferent world then, and American society has advanced and matured way beyond the racist, slave-holding currency/society the South held in those days.
There ARE certain differences that sharply stand out in AMerica, but the culture is teaching us to accept that, and live in peace with these differences.
I just want y'all to be educated in these historical contexts.
The only way to rally have a lasting peace in this world, and in this nation, and especially in your own life, is to have a real relationship with Jesus Christ.
He is, afterall- The Prince of Peace!!!

you are way off ocpride. Smaller "wars" have taken place locally. Because of horrible corruption
http://www.jpfo.org/athens.htm
I personally don't think a civil war will take place it will be more of a revolution. 1775 ring a bell?
It will be most people vs gov't not people vs people.

I think the combination of several of these factors could result in an "uprising":
-continued war in Iraq and the Middle East with no signs of resolution
-military draft
-US economic situation continues to decline
-more evidence of government corruption
-police state/martial law imposed
-forced national ID card/microchip
-continued removal of freedoms by new legislation
