Conspiracy du jour - Internet rumour of tsunami destruction of Diego Garcia

At least they aren't afraid to say it's unsubstantiated.

Internet rumour of tsunami destruction of Diego Garcia
Dateline: Wednesday, January 5, 2005

By: STUART MILLER
By: News Correspondent
Source: Dave Kingston

**It is important to note that this story is so far unsubstantiated.**

Suspicion is emerging that the island of Diego Garcia with which Bush launched "Shock and Awe" on Baghdad has been annihilated.

This island in the Indian Ocean near the Maldives is the United States strategic Asian base which controls the Middle East and is a secret installation with a no go zone for yachts, shipping and over flying aircraft. Housing B52's and other strategic attack aircraft, the island has a maximum height above sea level of 4 meters, no sea walls and houses over 3000 military personnel.

This island was recently in the news when the disgrace of the involuntary removal of ethnic islanders in 1964 to make way for the base in a deal struck between Britain and America became clear. The misery of the islanders and their abject poverty in exile became apparent in a court case brought in the Old Bailey, Britain's highest court.

A judgement was made for repatriation, but British and American authorities refused to obey the court. American sources stated last week that the island avoided the tsunami because of coral reefs and undersea mountains, which is clearly a fudge.

The wave passed over the island and struck the African coast thousands of kilometres to the west including Somalia and the Seychelles, causing massive destruction.

News released today has declared 5000 deaths of Americans in the Asian Tsunami.

Where?

We expect news to leak over the next months identifying the destruction of military property and loss of life.

Failure of the US Military to quickly respond to other areas in reach of Diego Garcia such as the Maldives is indicative of this loss as Governments scrambled to replace the loss of security before other nations became aware.

Shock and Awe has always been reserved by Nature.

UPDATE:- The US Military deny the rumour here.

I'm still not sure about this one, so I am still looking. Here is a map I found of the island, and I would be surprised if the US military were actually telling the truth. Remember, they get paid by the same people who told us that jet fuel could melt/weaken steel...the very first steel building in the history of mankind to suffer weakening from fire. At 4 feet about sea level (max 22 ft) you would think that at least the eastern side of the horseshow would have been washed over.

Found an animation supposedly done by some Japanese guy that shows the tsunami waves. Diego Garcia is the spot on the lower left. So although the animation doesn't contain a frame going that far, it appears that the island was in its path.

Found an eq from 1983 that affect DG... But it's location is northwest, so it sheds no light.

1983 - Chagos Archipelago, B.I.O.T., Mw 7.7

Date
30th November 1983

Epicentre:
53.2 kms NW of Simpson Point, Diego Garcia Island, B.I.O.T.

Latitude:
06.850o S (1)

Longitude:

72.110o E (1)

Origin Time:

17:46 UTC (1)

Magnitude:
Mw 7.7, Mb 6.6, Ms 7.7 (1)

Moment:
4.1*10*20 Nm (1)

This was one of the strongest earthquakes ever recorded in the Indian Ocean. It occurred at 17:46pm UTC. The earthquake caused some damage (1) to buildings and piers on Diego Garcia. Diego Garcia is part of the Chagos Archipelago.

The earthquake was centred 53.2 kms NW of Simpson Point, Diego Garcia Island, B.I.O.T.,
79.7 kms ESE of the Egmont Islands, B.I.O.T.,
106 kms ESE of Danger Island, B.I.O.T.,
166 kms S of Saloman Islands, B.I.O.T.,
1242 kms S of Male, The Maldives,
1859 kms E of Victoria, Seychelles,
2164 kms NE of Port Louis, Mauritius.

The 1983 earthquake spawned a tsunami (1) in the region. In the lagoon, on Diego Garcia, there was a 1.5-meter rise in wave height and there was some significant wave damage near the south-eastern tip of the island. A 40-centimetre wave was also recorded at Victoria, Seychelles. There was a large zone of discoloured seawater observed 60 - 70 kilometres NNW of Diego Garcia.

According to this article, no damage from 6 foot waves on an island 4 feet above sea level...MSNBC

But then if there was any damage, for military reasons we would never know, but it's not wiped out.

i would not give joe too much credence. He's already been exposed as a CIA dis-information agent. So from where I sit, this was a natural disaster, hyped up to be a U.S. black op, so that if any foolish conpiracy theory buff follows up on it, can be shown to be baseless. A Rove-ian tactic, but that's how it works....
