I've heard these rumors. Do you have any links on the subject?

Again I refer to the Science Fiction stories of Larry Niven. Refer to what he calls 'Organlegging.'
Basic Premise: in the future, when medical technology advances to the point where organ transplants become commonplace and reliable, it becomes necessary to 'increase' the 'stock' of the Organ Banks so that the rich effete can have younger, healthier organs for their use.
So, a law gets passed that criminals convicted with the Death Penalty will be harvested and their organs returned to society.
Eventually the Organ Banks run low and so more and more laws suddenly start becoming Capital Crimes. After a hundred years even a minor transgression becomes punishable by 'death.' Thus you have people in jail waiting to be disaaembled for such heinous crimes as jaywalking, tax evasion and too many parking tickets.
Hyperbole of a sort, of course, most science fiction is. But these stories were written back in the late 1960's and early 1970's.
This is something I've already heard of, apparantly there are places where condemned prisoners have the option of donating themselves for organ harvest after the event - No Links, I can't find confirmation on this one.
Anyways, I offer this for further thought. Black market organ deals aren't the only concern as far as this issue goes.

---All part of the fear of death, the need to fight death and to look good doing it.
---Another way to look at it, if a human being can be considered just a number or a thing to be used and thrown away, you don't have to feel any emotion toward it.
---How many of you out there feel like you're being treated like a number on different occasions? Ever go to a bank and they ask for your card/number first and not your name?

LOL!!!!! That reminds me of this story that happened a couple years ago in Ft. Worth, Texas.
(This was taken from here, couldn't find the original newspaper link.)
"I'm going to have to come up with a new word. Indifferent isn't enough. Cruel isn't enough to say," Tarrant County prosecutor Richard Alpert told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "Heartless? Inhumane? Maybe we've just redefined inhumanity here."
Police said 37-year-old Gregory Biggs probably would have lived had he received immediate help. When the man finally died, Mallard and her friends put the stranger's body in the trunk of another car and dumped it in a park, authorities said.
Mallard allegedly told police she had been drinking and using the drug Ecstasy the night Biggs was hit. The impact hurled him headfirst through the windshield, leaving his broken legs protruding onto the hood.
With the man still lodged in the windshield, the woman panicked and drove a few miles to her Fort Worth home, parked her car in the garage and lowered the door as Biggs pleaded for help, according to police.
When Biggs' body was found Oct. 27, evidence pointed to a hit-and-run, investigators said.
Police last month were tipped that the woman may have been in a hit-and-run collision, Sgt. John Fahrenthold said. Mallard allegedly told a friend details when asked why she was no longer driving her car.
A search of Mallard's house turned up the damaged car with blood, hair and other evidence, authorities said. The car's seats were found in the back yard, and one had been burned.
This is not the brightest human on the planet is she? And trying to use X and Booze as some kind of excuse is just plain Bullshit
Mallard's attorney, Mike Heiskell, said: "I think this is overreaching on the part of the prosecution and the police and, in the end, I believe the law will shake out that this was simply a case of failure to stop and render aid."
Like stopping cleaning house, or cooking or the dishes or anything else while the guy was bleeding to death in the garage... Wonder what kind of nurses aide she was.. Probably an old age home or VA hospital.. sounds about the way they deal with people
The medical examiner's office said Biggs suffered no internal injuries and apparently died from loss of blood and shock.

This story is exactly like a CSI episode, except the driver was a lawyer and the man that was hit was actually trying to commit suicide.

That story sounds like something that could only come from a movie. I'm amazed she even parked the car in the garage being she was so afraid of being caught, which I am glad that she was. What a total bitch for letting that man bleed out for days! I'm glad she was prosecuted for the complete trash that she was but to me, 50 years isn't nearly long enough for her torture of him.

The article liberdave was looking for was from the Washington Post on 3-8-2002. They no longer have the article available. There is however, a similar article posted on news.telegraph

Bodies: The Exhibition
Hey now! There is a new exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) in Tampa, FL. It's called "Bodies: The Exhibition" and they aren't kidding folks, these are real bodies minus skin, from China, that no family claimed after they died, on display.
The water was sucked out of them and through a vacuum process, a silicone type of liquid was drawn into the bodies and then hardened. Apparently this process will preserve them for a very long time.
Check it out:
http://www.mosi.org/
This is the first time I've read about it although there is another real body exhibition (Body Worlds) that has been touring the world for over 10 years. People have donated their bodies for "plastination" after death.
