Adopt a Native American Elder program
This seems to be a great way to easily to contribute according to individual ability.
One can chose to donate food or gift box money without actually adopting an elder.
Adopt-a-Native-Elder-American Program
Another great project they've got going for children is Walk in Beauty.
Quote:
"For Navajo children to walk in beauty into the future, they need a sound pair of shoes.
On the Reservation, a surprising number of children don't have a single pair of their own shoes. Of those children who do, some wear shoes held together with duct tape, while others wear shoes so tight their toes curl. Still others wear hand-me-downs so big they trip when they walk.
Your donation of $20 provides a new pair of shoes for a child.
Twice a year, we purchase and deliver hundreds of pairs of sneakers to more than a dozen elementary schools on the Reservation. We select the shoes carefully to insure that the children get shoes that have plenty of growing room and that are in the colors they request.
Upon receiving her shoes, one student asked if she could wear them for just five more minutes because they felt so good. When her teacher explained that the shoes were hers to keep, she burst into tears. She said, "The angels from way up there are watching me. They heard me crying at night because my shoes are too small and old."

Bumping this in the Spirit of the Season.
Individual food gift certificates can be bought for $25 a piece.
Many of us complain we're bad off, yet, most of us have no clue how bad Bad Off can really be.

That is so cool, I love it!
You know whenever I go to Jamaica, I end up scopin out the scene before I go so I know what all sizes to get shoes for. It doesn't cost a lot at all to get some shoes for a few folks at Walmart and then bring them over..they don't have big box stores to get the big discounts, so while the average weekly wage of a resort worker is US $50, the cost of items that need to be purchased like shoes and clothes and general toiletries is higher than it is here most of the time..at least when you start with the basics. So reading about the program to get kids new shoes..that is something close to my heart..you see it right away when someone puts on new shoes that fit so good they are actually comfortable to walk in. I think it started with me when I would go to summer camp and hear the Christian campfire songs, and one of them I can no longer remember all of it but a portion of the song talks about all of God's children got shoes, and it stuck with me.

Surely a good idea, but the title is condescending, I think.
